Legal
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Northbound House LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“Northbound House,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, shares and protects information about you when you use RoadRover, our RV trip planning, maintenance and document app. It covers the RoadRover iPhone and iPad app, the RoadRover web app at web.roadrover.app, and this website at roadrover.app (together, the “Service”).
The short version. RoadRover stores the records you choose to put in it, such as your vehicles, maintenance history, documents, checklists and trips, so it can sync them across your devices and with the people you invite to your household. We never sell your records or use them for advertising, and the RoadRover apps do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. This marketing website (roadrover.app) uses the Reddit Pixel to measure our ads on Reddit; you can turn it off with Cookie settings or a Global Privacy Control signal. You can export your data and delete your account from inside the app.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. Your email address, your name or display name, and the sign-in method you use (Sign in with Apple, Google, or email and password). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the profile details they share with us, which may be a private relay email address if you choose to hide your email from us. We never receive your password for Apple or Google.
- Vehicle information. Details about your RVs and tow vehicles that you enter, such as year, make, model, type, nickname, VIN, license plate, mileage, generator hours, dimensions, weight, tank capacities and a photo.
- Maintenance and checklist records. Maintenance logs, service dates, costs, notes and the checklists and checklist items you create.
- Glovebox records and files. Items such as insurance, registration, roadside assistance and warranty records, which may include policy numbers, phone numbers, expiration dates and notes. If you have RoadRover Premium, you can also attach photos, PDFs and other files. These can contain whatever you choose to upload.
- Trip information. Trips you plan or import, including names, dates, stops, places, addresses, notes, and the routes and drive times calculated between stops.
- Household information. If you invite others to your household, we process the invited person’s email address and, once they join, their name and role in the household.
- Communications. If you email us, we receive your email address and the content of your message.
Information collected automatically
- Device and sync information. A device identifier generated by the app, the platform (iOS or web), app version, and the time each device last synced. We use this to keep your devices consistent and to diagnose problems.
- Usage and analytics information. Which screens and features you use (for example, that a trip or vehicle was created or that onboarding was completed), your app version and operating system version, and an anonymous identifier. We do not include the content of your records in analytics events. See Analytics, cookies and local storage.
- Website advertising measurement. On this marketing website, if allowed (see Analytics, cookies and local storage), the Reddit Pixel collects the pages you visit, whether you click a “Get started” or App Store link, the Reddit click identifier in the link that brought you here, a cookie identifier, your IP address and your browser and device type. It does not run in the RoadRover apps or the web app.
- Server and security logs. Our hosting and infrastructure providers record technical information such as IP address, request time, browser or device type and the pages or endpoints requested. We use these logs to operate, secure and troubleshoot the Service.
- Location. If you allow it, the iPhone app can use your device’s approximate or precise location while the app is in use to show relevant areas on the map. You can allow or deny this in iOS Settings, and RoadRover continues to work without it. When you search for a place, campground or address, the text you type, and your map area if location is on, is sent to our mapping providers to return results.
- Camera and photos. If you allow it, RoadRover can take a photo or select one from your photo library so you can attach it to a record. RoadRover accesses only the photos you choose to attach. If you choose Save Image from the share sheet, it adds that image to your library.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, a token that lets us deliver notifications to your device.
Purchase information
If you buy RoadRover Premium through Apple, Apple processes the payment and tells us the status of your subscription, such as a transaction identifier, product, dates and whether it is active. If you buy on the web, Stripe processes the payment, and we store a Stripe customer identifier, your subscription status and dates, and any promo code you redeemed. We never receive or store your full payment card number.
Information from other sources
We receive profile information from Apple or Google when you sign in with them, subscription status from Apple and Stripe, and place information (names, addresses, websites, phone numbers and coordinates) from Apple Maps and Google Maps Platform when you search for places.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide the Service: create and secure your account, store and sync your records, let you share a household, plan trips and calculate routes, and store your attachments;
- process subscriptions, restore purchases, apply promo codes and recognize Premium across Apple and the web;
- communicate with you about your account, security, billing, changes to the Service and your support requests;
- understand which features are used and improve the Service;
- measure how well our advertising on Reddit brings people to RoadRover;
- monitor for, prevent and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents and violations of our Terms of Service;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.
Where the law of your region requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on: performing our contract with you (providing the Service you asked for); our legitimate interests (securing and improving the Service); your consent (for example, location, camera, photos, notifications, and analytics and advertising cookies on this website, which you can withdraw at any time); and compliance with legal obligations.
We do not use your records, files or trip information to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not sell them or use them for advertising.
3. How we share information
We share personal information only in the following ways.
- With your household. Everyone in your household can see and edit the vehicles, maintenance records, glovebox items, checklists, trips and attachments in that household, and can see the names and email addresses of its members. Invite only people you trust, and remove a member if that trust changes.
- Through trip share links. If you create a share link for a trip, anyone who has the link can view a read-only page with that trip’s itinerary, stops and route and the name on your profile. The page leaves out your vehicle records, documents, files and notes. The link is an unguessable address; treat it like a private link and share it only with people you want to see the trip.
- With service providers that process information on our behalf to run the Service, listed in Service providers. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- With Reddit, for advertising measurement. On this marketing website only, the Reddit Pixel sends Reddit the information described in section 1 so we can see which of our Reddit ads lead to visits and sign-ups. Reddit may also use it for its own purposes, such as measuring and improving its ads, under the Reddit Privacy Policy. We do not send Reddit your email address, your account or anything you store in RoadRover.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is required by law, subpoena or legal process, or necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of you, us or others, or to enforce our agreements.
- In a business transfer. If Northbound House LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will give notice before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
- With your direction or consent. For example, when you use the share sheet to send an attachment or trip to another app.
We never sell or share your account, your records or your files. The Reddit Pixel on this marketing website may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or as a “sale,” as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar state laws, and as “targeted advertising” under other state laws. You can opt out as described in Your privacy rights. The RoadRover apps and web app do not use third-party advertising SDKs or pixels. The apps do not engage in “tracking” as defined by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework, and we do not ask for that permission.
4. Service providers
We rely on the following companies to operate RoadRover. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies and our agreements with them.
| Provider | What it does for us | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase Authentication) | Sign-in and account identity for Apple, Google and email sign-in | Email, name, sign-in method, account identifiers |
| Google (Firebase Analytics) | Aggregate usage and feature analytics | Anonymous identifier, device and app details, screen and feature events |
| Turso | Database hosting for your account and records | Account details and all records you create |
| Cloudflare (R2) | Private storage for Premium attachments | Photos and files you upload |
| Vercel | Hosting of this website, the web app and our API | Request data and server logs, including IP address |
| Stripe | Web payments, subscriptions and the billing portal | Name, email, payment details (held by Stripe), subscription status |
| Apple | In-App Purchase and subscriptions, Sign in with Apple, push notifications, Apple Maps and MapKit | Purchase status, sign-in profile, device token, place search and map requests |
| Google (Maps Platform) | Address lookup and place search, including campgrounds, with website and phone details | Search text, addresses and coordinates you look up |
Reddit, which provides the Reddit Pixel on this marketing website, is not a service provider: it is an advertising partner that receives information as described in How we share information.
5. Analytics, cookies and local storage
The RoadRover apps use Google Firebase Analytics to understand which features people use and where the app can be improved. Events describe actions, such as a screen view, a trip created or a checklist item completed, along with an anonymous installation identifier, app version and operating system version. They do not contain the text of your records. On the web app, Firebase Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies to recognize a browser across visits. We do not use analytics data for advertising.
The web app also stores information in your browser’s local storage and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences such as your unit system, remember that you dismissed a prompt, and make the app work offline. These are necessary for the Service to function.
This marketing website (roadrover.app) uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are
used, and the Reddit Pixel to measure our ads on Reddit. The Reddit Pixel sets advertising cookies
(such as _rdt_uuid) and sends Reddit the information described in section 1. Where the law
requires your consent, such as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Brazil,
both stay off until you choose Accept on the banner. Elsewhere they run unless you opt out. The Reddit
Pixel never runs when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, which we honour as an opt-out,
and Google Analytics does not run either unless you have chosen Accept. You can change your mind at any
time with the Cookie settings or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal
Information” link at the bottom of the home page; choosing Decline turns off both and removes the
Reddit Pixel’s cookies from this site. Our hosting provider may also log standard request
information for security and reliability.
When you arrive at RoadRover from a link that carries campaign tags, such as one of our ads, or from another website, we note which campaign or site it was. If you then create an account, we save that with your account so we can tell which of our announcements reach people; it is included in your account export and deleted with your account. On this marketing website it is kept in your browser only for the rest of your visit, and only when analytics is allowed as described above. We do not send this record to advertising networks. Separately, when the Reddit Pixel runs, it reads the Reddit click identifier from the link you arrived on, so Reddit can count that one of its ads led to your visit.
You can also limit analytics and advertising cookies by clearing or blocking cookies and site data in your browser, or by using a browser setting or extension that blocks them. If you want analytics turned off for your account and cannot do so yourself, email us at the address below and we will help.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep your account and records for as long as your account is active so that RoadRover can work and sync. When you delete a record, it disappears from the app immediately. Deleted attachment files are permanently removed from storage after a short recovery period of about 30 days. Pending household invitations expire after seven days.
When you delete your account, we remove you from your household, delete your registered devices, and erase the email address, name and sign-in method from your profile. If you are the only member of your household, we also close the household and delete all of its records and files from the Service; files are permanently erased after the recovery period above, and remaining database records are removed or de-identified within a reasonable period. If other people remain in your household, you must first transfer ownership to someone else before you can delete your account, and the household continues for them without your account. If you have an active web subscription, you must cancel it first so you are not billed after deletion. App Store subscriptions can only be cancelled through your Apple account.
After deletion, residual copies of data may remain for a limited period in backups and the logs of our providers until they are overwritten in the ordinary course. We may also keep information we are required to keep, such as billing and tax records, or that we need to resolve disputes, prevent fraud and enforce our agreements.
7. Your choices and controls
- Access, correct and update. You can view and edit your profile and records in the app at any time.
- Export your data. In the app, go to Account and choose to export your data. You receive a copy of your records and temporary download links for your files.
- Delete your account. In the app, go to Account and choose to delete your account, as described above.
- Website analytics and advertising cookies. Use the Cookie settings or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link at the bottom of the home page and choose Decline, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. See Analytics, cookies and local storage.
- Permissions. Location, camera, photos and notifications are optional. You can change them at any time in iOS Settings or your browser’s site settings.
- Household and sharing. Owners can remove members. Members can leave a household. You can delete a trip to take its share link out of use.
- Subscriptions. Manage App Store subscriptions at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions or in iOS Settings, and web subscriptions through Manage billing in the web app.
- Email. We send service and billing messages that you need to receive. We do not send marketing emails unless you have asked for them.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to know and access it, correct it, delete it, receive a portable copy, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Most of these rights are available directly in the app (see above). For anything else, email us at hello@northboundhouse.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We may need to verify your identity, usually by confirming that the request comes from the email address on your account, and we will respond within the time required by law (generally 30 to 45 days). You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we may ask for proof of their authority. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
California
In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information described in the California Consumer Privacy Act: identifiers (email, name, device and online identifiers, IP address); customer records and commercial information (subscription and purchase status); internet or app activity (usage events); geolocation (if you allow location access); audio, electronic or visual information (photos and files you upload); and other information you enter into your records. We collect these categories from you, your devices and the providers listed above, for the purposes described in section 2, and disclose them to the service providers listed in section 4. On this marketing website, we disclose identifiers (a cookie identifier, the Reddit click identifier and IP address) and internet activity (pages visited and links clicked) to Reddit through the Reddit Pixel to measure our advertising, which may be a “sale” or “sharing” under the CCPA. You have the right to opt out: use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link at the bottom of the home page, or turn on Global Privacy Control, which we treat as a valid opt-out. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 18. We use and disclose sensitive personal information, such as account log-in credentials handled by our identity provider and precise location if you enable it, only to provide the Service and not to infer characteristics about you. California’s “Shine the Light” law lets California residents ask which personal information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing; we do not disclose personal information for that purpose.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
If you are in these regions, Northbound House LLC is the controller of your personal information. You have the rights described above, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We rely on the legal bases listed in section 2. If we transfer your information outside your region, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, as described in section 10.
Other U.S. states
Residents of other U.S. states with privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and Florida, may have similar rights, including the right to opt out of the sale of personal information and of targeted advertising. The Reddit Pixel on this marketing website is the only such activity; opt out of it the same way as described for California above, with the link at the bottom of the home page or Global Privacy Control. We do not use personal information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Email us to use any other right.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, private storage for uploaded files accessed only through short-lived links, access controls that keep each household’s records separate, and verified sign-in tokens on every request. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password, and tell us right away if you believe your account has been compromised. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.
To help with a problem you report, an authorized RoadRover administrator can open a time-limited, read-only view of your account to see what you see. It cannot change anything, each session needs a stated reason, and each session (including any attachment opened) is recorded in an access log. We do this only to support you, investigate abuse or meet legal obligations.
10. International transfers
Northbound House LLC is based in the United States, and our providers process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. If you use RoadRover from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored and processed in countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and the data transfer frameworks and agreements of our providers.
11. Children
RoadRover is intended for adults and is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date above and notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect where required. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
